Accra, Dec. 7, GNA – Some Polling Stations have witnessed long queues hours before the opening of Election 2020 polls, Ghana News Agency monitoring team observed during a tour of the centres between the 0400 hours and 0600 hours.

Long queues were observed at Ayawaso West Wuogon, Ayawaso East, Ayawaso West, Ablekuma Central, Ablekuma North, Ayawaso Central, Klottey Korle, Ododiodiodoo, Okaikwei North, and Okaikwei South Constituencies.

Some of the expectant electorate told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the early queues were to enhance their chances of voting early; “It is a joy to be among the first group to cast ballots at 0700 hours when polls open”.

Others also attributed their dawn queues to the fear of the scorchy sun, should there be queues in the daytime.

Ghana’s seventh Democratic Elections began exactly 0700 hours and will end at 1700 hours.

The election is being contested among 12 Presidential Candidates, but Pollsters have narrowed the race down to two candidates, thus the incumbent President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

GNA noticed Electoral Officials who were at post as early as 0500 hours to arrange electoral material were adequately protected by the security.

The GNA also observed that there was social distancing with prospective voters wearing nose masks.
