Kumasi, Dec 08, 2020, GNA – Scores of residents at the Asawase Constituency, have applauded the security personnel deployed in the area to maintain law and order during the just ended general elections.
They said the security personnel demonstrated a high sense of professionalism in handling issues, which could have triggered misunderstanding and possible confusion in an area designated as a major flash point in the elections.
The Ghana News Agency (GNA) early Tuesday morning visited the area to assess the situation after the ballots.
There is however some controversy over the results which were still being recounted.
Unlike previous elections, which were characterized by series of violence, which often resulted in the destruction of life and properties in the area, the atmosphere at Asawase during the whole election process on Monday, was very calm and peaceful with no reported incident of violence.
Some supporters of the NDC were seen clad in white cloths ready to jubilate over the possible victory in the parliamentary results.
Ibrahim Labaran, a resident said he was amazed by the conduct of the security personnel despite several provocations by some people in the area during the elections.
Mr. Haruna Usman said he was optimistic that the area would remain calm after the declaration of the national results.
He appealed to supporters of whoever would win the elections to celebrate in moderation in order not to provoke any violence.
